Install Java Plugin on Firefox Ubuntu

My Ubuntu version is 10.10 and My Java version is 1.6.0_23.

Installing Java
To install java, you can download it from here.

Installing Plugin
Assume that java had been installed on /opt/jdk1.6.0_23/ and using i386 architecture (my ubuntu is desktop-i386 version). To install the plugin, use this command:
sudo ln -s /opt/jdk1.6.0_23/jre/lib/libnpjp2.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so

What I did

Installing Java

  1. Goto the java download link. I chose JDK + Netbeans here. You can choose JDK or JRE (with some changes in installation later). Assume the file downloaded is jdk-6u23-nb-6_9_1-linux-ml.sh
  2. Add executable permission to file, then install it:
    chmod u+x jdk-6u23-nb-6_9_1-linux-ml.sh
    ./jdk-6u23-nb-6_9_1-linux-ml.sh
  3. I use default option (just press Enter or click Next button on installation).

  4. My JDK then installed in /opt/jdk1.6.0_23/

Installing Plugin
Installing the plugin just using command written above:
sudo ln -s /opt/jdk1.6.0_23/jre/lib/libnpjp2.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so
